Stories have a unique way of exploring truths that are sometimes difficult to express directly.
My fiction grows from many of the same themes that shape my hymns and devotional writing: community, belonging, compassion, humour, pilgrimage, and the quiet presence of grace in everyday life. Rather than focusing on heroes or dramatic events, these stories seek to discover the extraordinary within ordinary people and familiar places.
Whether set within a parish church or a dialysis centre, they ask the same enduring question:
How do ordinary people continue to find hope, courage, and kindness in the midst of everyday life?

The Church Is Open is a series of gentle, character-driven stories exploring the ordinary grace of parish life. These are not stories about perfect people or perfect churches. They are stories about clergy and parishioners, organists and churchwardens, volunteers and visitors, all learning to recognise God’s presence in the rhythms of ordinary parish life.
Each volume follows the Church’s year, discovering fresh hope within familiar seasons and reminding us that faith is often found in the people who quietly keep showing up for one another.
