I have published the third title in the NeuroDivine Prayer and Worship Booklets series.

Before and After “Therefore” grew from returning slowly to Romans 1 through the practice of Lectio Divina.

It is a passage frequently quoted in discussions about gay Christians, often with great certainty and sometimes with considerable harm. Reading it slowly, however, drew my attention to the movement of Paul’s argument and especially to two small but important words: therefore.

The booklet is not intended as a complete academic treatment of Romans 1. It is a short, prayerful reflection on reading Scripture attentively, resisting inherited conclusions, and asking whether a passage long used against gay Christians is really describing us at all.

It also reflects on judgement, idolatry, faithful love, and the damage caused when Scripture is removed from its setting and sharpened into a weapon.

The booklet concludes with a prayer for those who have been wounded by condemnatory readings of the Bible and a blessing rooted in the promise that nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
